Lowland malts are renowned as the lightest, sweetest, most delicately flavoured, with fruity, floral, honeyed notes. During the 19th century there were around 30 distilleries in the Lowlands. There are currently only three, Auchentoshan, Bladnoch and Glenkinchie. However, malts from ‘silent’ distilleries such as Ladyburn and Rosebank are still available.
