Produced on the island of Islay, these malts are some of the smokiest, with a characteristic range of medicinal, iodine, marine and sea air notes. Islay's seven distilleries do however span a full range of peating levels. This means malts with no and low smoke (Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain and Caol Ila) through to medium smoke (Bowmore) up to maximum smokiness (Ardbeg, Lagavulin And Laphroaig).
